What if I wanted to be someone else entirely: someone who loves to live? How have I gone about getting that? By participating in cults!
Possibly the most enthusiastically-read audiobook I’ve ever listened to. It’s very entertaining. Bamford’s impressions of her mother, in particular, crack me up.
The “cults” in question are largely 12-step programs, which Bamford portrays positively.
I appreciated that Bamford declares early on that her stories contain embellishments. Comedic memoirs like this that cover serious struggles have conflicting incentives: to say the funniest thing, and to say the most true thing. I like knowing up-front which one the author prioritized.
